K-Food Startup Academy 2026 Additional Recruitment – Young Food Entrepreneurs, Check Now
1. What is this program?
Food industry startups require significant initial capital investment. Even producing a single prototype requires manufacturing equipment, and there are many regulatory hurdles different from other industries, including sanitation certifications and distribution channels. The K-Food Startup Academy (K-푸드 창업사관학교) is a startup support program operated by the Korea Food Industry Cluster Promotion Agency, designed with consideration for the unique characteristics of food entrepreneurship. It is structured to provide substantive support to young entrepreneurs ranging from those in the idea stage to early-stage entrepreneurs within seven years of founding in the food sector.
The distinctive feature of this program is that it goes beyond simple financial support. It integrates the entire startup lifecycle—from startup camps, commercialization funding, education and mentoring, prototype development support, investment linkage, to market entry—into a single program. An additional recruitment round has been opened for companies not selected in the 2026 regular recruitment, so if you meet the eligibility criteria, this may be your last opportunity.
The application deadline is May 21, 2026. With limited time available after checking the announcement, document preparation and business plan writing must proceed in parallel. You need to start immediately.

3. Eligible Applicants
Applicants must be young people aged 19 to 39 years old. Both prospective entrepreneurs (those not yet started) and early-stage entrepreneurs within seven years of founding can apply, with a focus on the food sector. To be persuasive, the business item must be connected to the K-Food ecosystem through food manufacturing, processing, distribution, and branding—not just simple food and beverage retail.
Important points to note: The age criterion is applied as of the application date, so those aged 40 and above are not eligible. Additionally, items unrelated to the food sector cannot be selected regardless of how well-developed. Conversely, previously graduated companies can participate again in the early-stage entrepreneur track—an unusual aspect of this program. Once you graduate, the door is not completely closed.
4. Support Details
Support ratios vary by track, so first identify which track applies to you.
The startup camp offers 100% of funding, meaning companies participate with no cost burden. The prospective entrepreneur commercialization track provides 90% funding with 10% company contribution. The early-stage entrepreneur track offers 80% funding with 20% company contribution. The early-stage entrepreneur capacity building and growth acceleration support provides up to 18 million won.
Support is provided in a complex combination including cash subsidies, education, mentoring, and commercialization linkage. Since this is in the form of subsidies rather than loans or financing, there is no repayment obligation. However, for tracks involving company contribution, this amount must be prepared in advance—a critical point not to overlook.
5. Application Period and Method
Note that this is online submission through the platform only—not offline or email submission. Since account registration may be required, it is safer to access the platform and check the application screen at least one day before the deadline, rather than on the deadline date itself.
6. What Matters in Selection
Evaluation for this program consists of document review and face-to-face assessment. Based on what evaluators actually examine, the criteria are as follows:
First, the relevance of the business item to the food sector. You must logically explain how closely aligned your business is with the K-Food keyword.
Second, market potential and business viability. Simply stating “the market is large” lacks persuasiveness. You must present specific target customers and revenue potential with numbers.
Third, the entrepreneur’s competency. Food-related experience, education history, and networks increase credibility.
Fourth, feasibility. Even with an excellent idea, evaluators assess whether the plan can be implemented in reality. This includes securing manufacturing equipment, raw material procurement plans, and regulatory compliance measures.
Fifth, specificity of capital utilization plans. The clearer your explanation of where and how you will use the funding, the more advantageous in evaluation.
7. Business Plan Writing Strategy
What must grab attention on the first page of your business plan is “Why must I be in this market?” Evaluators review dozens of plans. If the differentiator of your item and the earnestness of the entrepreneur are not felt in the opening section, they move on without reading further.
The K-Food keyword should not be interpreted narrowly as only Korean cuisine or Korean food products. You can receive higher evaluation scores by connecting it to business items based on Korean food culture that can succeed in global markets, or ideas that fill gaps in the domestic food market.
Deduction factors include vague revenue plans (“Target annual sales of 1 billion won”), unreferenced market size citations, and unclear descriptions of team composition where the entrepreneur’s own role is unclear. For early-stage entrepreneurs, it is beneficial to include current sales or customer response data.
8. Precautions
Due to the nature of additional recruitment, the competition ratio may be lower than regular recruitment, but applying with insufficient preparation will result in elimination during document review. A “let’s just submit” approach does not work for this program.
Age criteria misunderstandings are more common than expected. Age 39 or under is calculated based on the application date, not the deadline date. You must double-check your date of birth.
If applying to a track with company contribution, unless you are genuinely prepared to pay that amount, participation becomes difficult even if selected. There are actual cases where applicants focus only on the subsidy portion and stop when facing the self-funded component.
For previously graduated companies applying again to the early-stage entrepreneur track, differentiate your content so it does not overlap with previous program completion and your new business plan.
